LISEIA wishes to stress the importance of education for both consumers, municipalities, planners, architects, developers, governmental agencies, utilities and renewable energy professionals.
In order to make intelligent decisions as a consumer, one needs to understand the nature of the technology considered, whether or not your site is suitable and what the pro's and con's are. Renewable energy systems almost always make sound economic and environmental sense, assuming the site is suitable. If you have a completely shaded area where you wish to install solar PV or solar thermal, it will not work well. If you want to put up a wind turbine and you are in an area that does not get enough non-turbulent wind, it will not work well.
Solar industry professionals need to be well educated in order to properly analyse a proposed site's suitability, properly advise their client and perform a quality installation that is fully compliant with local, regional and national codes and accepted practices.
There are many resources available to help you become self educated as well as courses, seminars, workshops and training available from schools, colleges, universities, professional training facilities, vocational institutions, government and not for profit organizations, independent educators and trainers. You have to pick the training type that best suits your goals, background and learning mode.

Training & Classes.
This page is mainly a listing of individuals, educators, schools, facilities, professional training companies, colleges & universities and not for profit organizations offering training and/or classes of some kind. It can be anything from an introductory course, to a class that helps you achieve a certification or pass a specific certification test, to a full blown multi year associates, bachelors or masters degree.
Certifications & Licenses.
These pages deal primarily with the various licenses and/or certifications that may be required to work with a specific technology, in a given area. These can be personal and corporate. These vary widely by state, county and local municipality and type of job.
For instance in Nassau County, L.I. You may need a Nassau Home Improvement License and an Electrician's license and a plumber's license for a given town, also an electrician's license and plumber's license for a specific city, OSHA 10 certification, possibly NABCEP Certified Solar PV Installer certification if that was written into the job spec as well. Where in other areas on a particular job, an electrician's license may be all that you need legally. The work that can be done by a non-electrician for example may be heavily restricted in some areas and for some types of jobs.
