Licensing is required for all consumer contracts for work on Long Island. The following is a growing list of requirements that contractors must comply with in Suffolk County in order to make contracts for renewable energy systems.
PV Systems: Master Electrician License.
DHW Systems: Master Plumber License or Restricted Plumber License for HVAC.
Pool Heating Systems: Master Plumber License or Restricted Plumber License for HVAC.
Geothermal Systems: Master Plumber License or Restricted Plumber License for HVAC and or Restricted Plumbing License for Well Drilling.
Wind Energy Systems: Master Electrician License.
In addition to the above requirements, Suffolk County will require a home improvement license for any structural modifications such a making a pergola or awning structure to support the modules.
In addition to the above requirements, the following localities require either a license with them or registration of the Suffolk County License with them.
Islip requires their own seperate plumbing license for solar dhw or solar pool heating systems.
Southampton requires their own seperate home improvement license for solar systems that are not going to be mounted flush with the roof. Southampton requires that the licenseholder register the electrical or plumbing license with them.
Easthampton requires their own separate home improvement license for any work that the Suffolk County Home Improvment License is required for. Easthampton does not require any special registrations for Suffolk County Licensed Plumbers or Suffolk County Licensed Electricians.
